As a culinary capital of the world, Lyon, France is a fitting location to host international teams for a grueling test of skill and innovation in one of the most prestigious pastry chef competitions in the world. After more than fifty national rounds and four continental selection events, 23 teams have qualified for the final that will take place on January 22-23 2017. This 18th edition of the World Pastry Cup will be placed under the sign of savoir-faire, excellence, refinement, and technical mastery.

Judged by a jury of industry professionals, each team will have to create:
- 3 chocolate desserts with Valrhona Grands crus
- 3 frozen fruit desserts
- 15 identical desserts on plate
- 1 artistic creation made of sugar
- 1 artistic creation made of chocolate
- 1 artistic creation made of sculpted hydric ice
